PHOTOPRESS: NEW IMAGE ENHANCEMENT SOFTWARE-- NOW SHIPPING Thousand Oaks, CA
December 1, 1989 — PhotoPress, professional image enhancement for Macintosh DTP
began shipping today to domestic and international distributors.
"PhotoPress breaks current boundaries with new tools and techniques for
handling line art, contrast, auto-selections, and duotints" said Kelly
Austreng, company President. "By combining production and creative tools within
a single package, PhotoPress lets desktop publishers reproduce many of the
cutting-edge effects seen in today's hottest publications simply and
intuitively."
The heart of the package is in grayscale photo manipulation, yet unique
colorization and tinting effects let the graphic artist breathe life into
ordinary grayscale images by converting them into sepiatones or other duotints
(such as a dusty rose or steel blue). The ability to fill areas with selected
colors also allows illustrators and cartoonists to colorize line art by
choosing a color, pointing, and clicking.
Desktop publishers will appreciate the ability to enhance or retouch scanned
TIFF or PICT images with a wide variety of editing and palette control tools,
before importing them into page layout software such as Aldus' Pagemaker or
Quark's Xpress. Unlike Digital Darkroom or Image Studio, PhotoPress' ability to
open and display multiple images for seamless cutting and pasting between
pictures also increases productivity by eliminating clumsy intermediate steps
such as the clipboard or scrapbook. Display and retouch grayscale images using
full 256 gray presentation, or color images selecting from a palette of over
65,000 colors.
PhotoPress lets the desktop photographer push his own creative limits — an
limitless number of effects, textures, and enhancements can be created for any
scanned photograph. And for the newspaper publisher interested converting
grayscale images to line art, PhotoPress' dynamic masking capabilities offers
the ability to preview a nearly endless number of options.
Complete control over digital halftoning allows the graphic artist to produce a
wide range of screening effects with just a few clicks when outputting to
Postscript™ and compatible printers, such as the Laserwriter, Linotronic
series, Varityper, and more. Output color images to color printers such as the
Tektronix or QMS, or to a wide variety of slide writers when only film output
will do.
PhotoPress will hit distributors and dealers this week with a suggested retail
price of $295.00. PhotoPress will work on any of the Apple Macintosh II series
of computers (minimum 2 MB RAM recommended), and requires system software 6.02
or higher.
